Session Notes:          FIRST ONE AT THE DMV DAY

Not really. I was there by 8:30 though. Everything was going good — I had 19 forms of ID — I filled out all the paperwork and then the lady taking my picture said “I got bad news. Your old license is from Pennsylvania and this one is from New Jersey so we have to do a 50 state background check and unfortunately our computers are down.”

She continued “it may take 20 mintues or 2 hours or all day. You can wait 20 minutes or come back later”. I opted to come back later around noon and she gave me a phone number to call to check before I drive back out there. I was actually laughing as I walked back to the parking lot because I predicted this bullshit.

I called the number at 12:43 while I was in the game. Between being on hold and being switched from two different departments I was on the phone for an hour. Then the lady said “this is the state DMV in Trenton — u have to go back to the place u tried to get the license at.” I was so pissed I hung up. I didn’t go back. I figure I’ll be the first one there tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile I explained my situation to a highly respected floor person at the Borgata. I qoute “Everyone is going to pass the buck on this one — we don’t tell the cage how to do their job and they don’t tell us how to do ours.”

    10:30 AM START ….

As usual I get ahead and then give the money back when I flop the third nut flush and run into the nut flush. I’m a little shell-shocked right now. I’m paying off in spots to the point I don’t even know who I am.

    3:30 PM QUIT ….

quit to get my hair cut for license picture tomorrow …. wasn’t feeling the one the lady took.

    Hey Joe,
Been a fan of the blog and the tracks you have up for a while now. Quick request/suggestion… just thinking that it would be great if you provided more detail on your sessions. Throw in a couple interesting/deep hands and some your thought process during, some evaluation afterwards. I know most players wouldn’t want that kind of detail out there… but you seem comfortable enough sharing your results, and I’m sure that >99% of the players you play against aren’t going to exploit your play based on anything you post here. I really think it would help your traffic too, as most of your target audience is probably people who would love to read more detail about the hands your playing.. Just a thought! Also I’d like to hear about what kind of work you do away from the tables to improve your game, especially during a bad stretch like it sounds like you’re going through now (btw, they happen to best, keep your head up!). Curious to know if you talk about hands with other players or online or just prefer to read some poker books or whatever…

  • I don’t want to go into hands …. I don’t want to educate the poker audience anymore than they already do themselves at the table …. discussing poker only makes the game harder and lets them into your thought process which is exactly what players want to know so they can prey upon that …..
I don’t talk about hands with other players or read books …… I pretty much know that most of my mistakes come from discipline or a lack thereof or bad beats …… I pretty much rely on my experience which is my edge of most of the players I’m playing with …. In the end though you have to make some
hands and have them hold up ….. when that’s not happening poker is a brutal game ….. good luck at the tables
